For
three years in a row, Charlotte County was picked the Best Place to Live in the
South, according to Money Magazine.
Factors taken into consideration were economy, health, crime, housing, education, weather, transportation, leisure, and arts. We were given high marks in weather, low crime, and a perfect score on its economy. This was primarily due to a projected job growth of 16.3%, the cost of living is 5% below the national average, our violent crimes are 59% below the national average, there are 11 churches to every night club, and it's sunny two out of every three days. Having affordable Gulf access homes for boaters, great fishing, several outstanding golf courses, and most of the population living a "no-rush" lifestyle doesn't hurt either.
With homes and recreation carefully placed amid nature preserves spanning thousands of acres Rotonda is an area that totally caters for many interests and pursuits. In addition to golf Rotonda offers easy access to pristine beaches on the Gulf of Mexico, ideal for a variety of water sports. Enjoy Englewood Beach, Manasota, and Blind Pass. Or to the south, visit Don Pedro State Park, Gasparilla State Recreation Area, or Port Charlotte State Recreation Area, referred to by locals as Stump Pass Beach. To the north Sarasota with its emphasis on the arts and its own fine beaches is worthy of a visit too.
Fishing enthusiasts will find passage to the most sensational fishing areas in SW Florida, saltwater or fresh. Tarpon, kingfish, grouper, snook, reds, bass and trout are all here. In fact, Boca Grande is hailed as the world capital for tarpon fishing.
Boaters will discover a wide array of marinas, with both wet and dry slips and ready access to the Intracoastal Waterway. Whether you have a passion for deep water sailboats, enjoy the fast-paced speedboat lifestyle, or anything in between, you'll find a marina to accommodate you.
